Our School

Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Chengamanad is a prominent government educational institution located in the Ernakulam district of Kerala. Established over a century ago, it has evolved from a small local initiative into a comprehensive center for secondary and higher secondary education.

History and Legacy

The school’s roots trace back to 1911, when a local resident named Vadakkedath Sankara Pillai donated 40 cents of land and built a thatched-roof shed to start a school. Influenced by the social reforms of Sree Chattampi Swamikal, the school received formal government recognition in 1913 as a primary school. It was later upgraded to a High School and eventually became a Higher Secondary School in the year 2000.

A real-time academic support system created to assist students in their learning journey and help them achieve excellence. It provides timely guidance, doubt-clearing sessions, and personalized support to strengthen subject understanding, improve performance, and build confidence in their studies.

A dedicated counseling support system that nurtures the mental and emotional well-being of students and parents. It provides a safe, confidential space to discuss concerns, helps children handle academic and personal challenges, and guides parents in supporting their child’s emotional needs at home and school.

In general education, Samagra Shiksha Kerala, in collaboration with CUSAT, is implementing a project in our school that brings together scientific and technological learning from different classes through extracurricular activities, making knowledge more practical and unified for students.

Computer Lab & Little Kites

A computer lab equipped with modern facilities makes IT learning more engaging. The Little Kites IT Club, a student IT initiative in hi-tech schools, provides training in various fields such as animation, programming, mobile app development, and robotics.

She GYM

She GYM is a dedicated school fitness space created to promote health, confidence, and physical strength among students. It provides a safe and supportive environment where children can engage in structured workouts, yoga, sports training, and wellness activities, helping them develop discipline, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle from a young age.

Junior Red Cross (JRC)

The Junior Red Cross, a youth wing of the Indian Red Cross Society, encourages students to develop values of service, empathy, and social responsibility. Through activities like first aid training, health awareness programs, and community service, JRC helps children build leadership skills, discipline, and a caring attitude toward society.
